In a very literal sense.
33 WEEK INTERVIEW
How far along?
33 weeks and 6 days!
Baby's size?
At 33 weeks, the baby measures about 17 and 1/4 inches long and weighs about 4 and 1/4 pounds!
How was your last appointment?
It went great! I had tons of questions answered and we got to go over my birth plan with my doctor. The recovering Type A personality in me quivered in excitement over this. We also heard baby's heart beat as usual (145 beats per minute!) and my doctor measured me and I'm about a week smaller than I am along (which seems to be normal for me and is okay). I also asked if she could tell what position the baby is in and baby is head down! ...On the right side! As in on the right side - not the left side, which is consequently the wrong side. Or, not the wrong side, but the less desirable side. Apparently if baby is on the left side, it's a shorter distance to freedom and by all means let's make that happen. Time to spin some babies!
Days until next doc appointment?
15 days! After this next appointment my appointments will be every week. Ay yi yi! Where has the time gone?!
Total weight gain?
27 pounds... :( At my appointment my doctor said that my big jump in weight gain is likely fluid retention since I've been noticing swelling in my feet more these days.
Maternity clothes?
I'm still wearing my long skirts and/or maternity leggings and I am still so thankful that this Winter hasn't been as cold as last year. I can go out in a moderate amount of layers and not totally freeze my buns off! Last year I had to wear half my wardrobe just to walk across a parking lot and would still narrowly avoid frostbite. I really recommend that everyone experiences -40 degrees at least 90 times in life just so y'all can relate.
People back home in California be like.
Did I just say y'all? I'm sorry, I'm pregnant. I really don't know what's happening 50 percent of the time. In other news, my heavy Winter coat is so tight at the largest part of my belly that it feels like a corset.
Moving on.
Stretch marks?
No new ones! The one I noticed last week hurts from time to time so I know it's a stretch mark. I'm glad it's not on my belly or sides though and that it's somewhere no one will see it, and based on the old stretch marks I have, it should be totally unnoticeable in a couple of years.
Sleep:
I have been sleeping so much better* since I started wearing my belly band to bed!
*Most nights.
Best moment this week:
I just love working on the nursery! This weekend we finished painting the bookshelves that Jason built and we got them hung up on the wall and filled with children's books. Some new, some classics, and some old books from our childhoods. I'm going to be working on more sewing projects for things in the baby's room (changing pad covers, laundry basket bag, hooded towels and so forth) and then this weekend I'm hoping we can get the closet shelves built and installed (: Then I can start washing and organizing all the baby clothes we bought WHICH I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FORWARD TO DOING SO MUCH.
Being an almost-mom does some pretty weird things to ya.
Food cravings:
I'm really into fruit right now which, if you know me, you know is totally bizarre. There's two types of people in this world, fruit-people and vegetable-people.
...That sounds...so much weirder written down than it did in my head. Am I the only one imagining people waddle-dancing in Katy Perry-esque fruit and vegetable costumes?
Is that a thing? Can we make it a thing?
Top foods making my life right now: Watermelon. Cantaloupe. Apples. Green only. The occasional strawberry. With frozen whipped cream of course. Boom shaka laka.
Anything make you queasy or sick?
Nothing as far as food goes... Sadly my morning sickness has returned as of this week :( But I've heard that when the morning sickness comes back is when you know you're really approaching the end! Only six weeks and a day until my due date!
Which is like a month and a half.
...and a day.
Movement:
I think it's becoming more and more clear to me when there's a kneecap rubbing along the inside of my belly. Which is about as comfortable as it sounds. It's like being sucker punched from the inside. Which, if you think about it, would be a really nice feature to have going through life as far as having a conscience goes. And everyone could benefit from having one! Like, "Oh no, she's about to do something stupid. Inner-belly knee jab!" And then it would be a very obvious sign that you shouldn't do what you're about to do.
...I had lots of friends throughout school,
Have you started to show yet?
In real life with normal clothes on, yes (: In today's negative 15 degree weather with my Winter jacket and all kinds of layers on... I'm gunna go ahead and say no...
Speaking of negative 15 degrees, we got snowed in pretty good the other day which left us with this:
(insta @marlyssa)
There are three steps and a deck leading up to that door there. In case you were wondering how much snow there is, exactly. Which means I'll be shoveling all of that (and two other, much larger porches, and two walkways) today. No sarcasm here - I love shoveling snow! Blame it on the fact that last year was the first time I ever had the opportunity to do such a thing in my life, but I think shoveling snow is fun! It's good exercise (snow is stinking heavy you guys) and it gets me outside. Which doesn't happen often enough since there aren't a whole lot of outdoor physical activities I can do while preggy. Sledding: nope. Ice skating: nope. Skiing, not that I've ever tried it: nope. Snowboarding (same as skiing): nope.
You get the idea.
Speaking of showing, this is the reason why I always say people can't tell that I'm pregnant since it's Winter in Minnesota:
This is what people see when I'm out and about. And this is why I always get really surprised reactions when people find out I'm pregnant or that I'm as far along as I am. Haha
7 and 1/2 months preggy belly selfie! This was after an hour and a half of shoveling snow off of our decks and walkways. (:
Missing anything?
Some nights it's so uncomfortable trying to fall asleep (even with the belly band on) because it will feel like there is no more room for the baby to be and it can feel like I can barely breathe. So I'll be laying there in bed, totally relaxed, trying to catch my breath.
I don't think the nurses were joking when they said that child birth is like running a marathon. Which is fortunate for me because I can run an impressive 17 minute mile. If child birth is like running a marathon, this breathlessness is just my training for the run ahead.
*17 minutes is a horrible speed for running a mile! Good grief! It's not much faster than walking, people. You literally can't run much slower than that!
In other news, my jogging stroller should be arriving in the mail any day.
Gender:
Labor signs?
None!
Belly button:
The top half of my belly button is officially flat! It's been flat-ish before, but I think the top half is flat for good now. Or, you know. At least until I have the baby. Haha
Wedding rings on or off?
Still on all the time! It's nuts, my feet swell but my hands don't. My hands were swollen a bit the other day to the point where it was almost a little hard getting my rings off, but now they're loose again.
Happy or moody most of the time?
I've noticed...I tend to get a little bit crazy at times. But I don't get crazy at people, it's just certain debatable topics seem to make me more...passionate than they used to. And I tend to reach a stage 4 freak out in about half the time/rationality than I used to. But overall, I'm still totally happy!
Weekly symptoms:
Very itchy bumps on my legs and arms, can't really bend over to pick things up (squats all day), lots of pee trips, fatigue from standing/doing too much in one stretch, hip pain, acid reflux, rhinitis of pregnancy (nosebleeds), foot pain, back pain, sciatica, leg cramps, morning sickness, aversion to smells
Looking forward to:
Getting the baby's closet set up, washing and organizing all the baby clothes, sewing more things for the baby, "upholstering" the glider... it's so exciting to me! Haha
On a somewhat unrelated note:
I really feel like I will be able to look back on these bumpdates someday as a documentation of how I lost my mind week by glorious week. I mean, dancing bananas, Marlyssa? Really? Good grief.

In regards to the position your little one is in, don't expect that's where they are all the time now! I just had an ultrasound on Wednesday and he started off being breech. Then as she kept going with the ultrasound he moved so that his head was down by his feet. And by the time she was done, he was longer breech and his head was down and feet were up lol. We are in the home stretch but baby still has plenty of room to move at this point, so your little one is likely in there doing somersaults lol! :)
ReplyDeleteMy doctor said it's unlikely my baby will change position at this point. I've tried belly mapping at home (with no success haha), but at my appointment she was able to tell me which direction the baby is facing, and where the arms and legs are. Based on that, I know from the movements I've felt that my baby has been in this one position for a number of weeks already. Pretty much ever since my last ultrasound at 27 weeks! So I'm not sure if I'll be able to get the baby to face the other direction or not haha. Sounds like you've got quite the acrobat! (:
